Little Max is moving to a new house tomorrow but he is afraid.  He has a fear of going to a new school & trying to make new friends.  As his mother calms his fears, she reads him his favorite stories about Frog and his mates, Hare, Duck, Rat and Piggy.  Before our eyes, these characters come to life.  The large scale puppets are manipulated in a Japanese "bunraku" style, with their human manipulators fully visible and lending voice & character. Through their adventures Max is reassured and the gentle lessons of friendship are explored. Frog and His Friends, created by Theatre Terra, is a musical based on the storybooks of Max Velthuijs.  This adorable life-size puppetry/musical has recently won the Dutch Theatre Award for Best New Musical, beating out all adult entries.

Performances take place in Durgin Hall, 35 Wilder St. on UMASS Lowell South. The theatre is handicapped-accessible and convenient, free parking is nearby.  The Discovery Series is sponsored by Nancy & Richard K. Donahue; Frog and His Friends is sponsored by Community Teamwork, Inc. For information or to order tickets, call (978) 934-4444 between 10 AM - 3 PM from Monday - Friday.  Tickets may also be purchased at the door one hour prior to each performance.
