LOWELL, MA (Dec. 2, 2005) ߝ Joanna DaLuze, a senior from Harwich, MA (Harwich H.S.) is featured in Sports Illustrated’s "Faces in the Crowd" section this week as a result of guiding the UMass Lowell field hockey team to the NCAA Division II Championship.
A three-year starting midfielder, DaLuze scored the game-winning goal in double overtime of UML’s 2-1 victory over Bloomsburg for the national championship on Nov. 13 in Shippensburg, PA.
DaLuze, named the Northeast-10 Conference Co-Player of the Year, has earned many honors this season. She was named a first team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Player of the Year.
DaLuze was also selected to play in the NFHCA Division II North-South Senior All-Star Game at the University of Louisville.
DaLuze is the latest UML student-athlete in recent years to be highlighted in "Faces in the Crowd." Former men’s basketball standout Elad Inbar, the 2003-04 NCAA Division II Player of the Year, was named in April of 2004 while former women’s soccer standout Jackie MacLean was cited in the fall of 1997.
DaLuze is the daughter of Clifford and Mary DaLuze of Harwich, MA.
