BOSTON
-- Junior Jeff Veiga (Lowell) placed first and senior Angus MacDonald
(Methuen) took third overall as the UMass Lowell men's cross country
team stormed to the NCAA East Region Men's Cross Country Championship on
Sunday morning at Franklin Park.
Colleges
The title was the fifth straight and ninth in the last 11 years
for the River Hawks, who move on to the NCAA Championship for the 11th
straight year Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Division II Championship Festival
in Louisville, Ky.
UMass Lowell scored 41 points, while Stonehill placed second with
75 points. Southern Connecticut placed third with 121 points, while
American International College (130) took fourth and Bentley (134)
fifth.
Veiga's finish marked the
fourth time in 11 years a UMass Lowell runner won the
individual honor. Carl Mease won the individual title in 2001, Chris
Kapfer in 2003 and Ruben Sanca won it in 2008.
