LOWELL -- A team of UMass Lowell Business students has won the University of Massachusetts investment contest, posting earnings that not only beat the competition but outperformed the S&P 500.
With the win, UMass Lowell remains the only champion in the contest's history.
In 2008, teams from the campuses in Lowell, Amherst, Boston and Dartmouth were each given $25,000 in private donations by the UMass Foundation to invest in the stock market for a real-world lesson in fund management. The winner of the Student Managed Fund competition, chosen at the end of each academic year, is selected based on the largest return on investments.
