On Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 2:30 p.m., Governor Jane Swift and UMass President William M. Bulger will present findings of the state’s economic development report, “Toward a New Prosperity: Building Regional Competitiveness Across the Commonwealth.”  The report offers a strategic framework for economic development.

The presentation will be broadcast to Room 311 of the Engineering Building, and will be followed by a discussion of the report’s implications for the Merrimack Valley. Discussion will be facilitated by Prof. Robert Forrant of the Dept. of Regional Economic and Social Development and regional analyst for “Benchmarks,” a  periodic state-wide economic development report produced by UMass.

A joint effort with the UMass Donahue Institute, “Toward a New Prosperity” is the latest project in the effort to improve the overall business climate in Massachusetts. The report highlights what the Commonwealth has accomplished over the last decade and outlines the need for our state to sustain a competitive climate and promote greater regional equity through broad-based economic growth. The report highlights the importance of state government in supporting a collaborative effort going forward.
