Master of Business Administration - MBA

This environment is characterized by rapid technological change, increased international competitiveness in manufacturing and other sectors, and a labor force which expects a higher quality of work life than previous generations of employees. These changes directly affect the health and vitality of any region's economy.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program is designed to prepare managers to effectively lead organizations in rapidly changing and diverse regional, national, and global competitive environments. The MBA program at UMass Lowell integrates theory and practice, using case studies, experiential learning techniques, and field programs applicable to a wide variety of commercial, industrial and not-for-profit settings.  

The MBA program with options in Accounting, Finance & Information Technology is designed to prepare graduates to:

  1. Understand the role of business in creating and capturing value in the economic system 
  2. Integrate the functional areas of business to create value for the firm 
  3. Effectively converse across all business functions in order to have an integrated perspective on business problems and issues 
  4. Use the management process necessary to lead change 
  5. Make ethical decisions fostering corporate citizenship 
  6. Demonstrate competency in critical thinking and communication skills leading to effective problem solving and decision making

MBA (for Professionals - Evening and Online)

Students qualifying for the MBA for professionals must hold a minimum of 2 years full time relevant work experience.

Students are admitted on either a part-time or full-time basis. Courses meet during the evening hours beginning at 6 p.m. as well as online. 

Part-time students are expected to graduate within five years. For an MBA student, the full-time course load is nine credits. Degree requirements usually are completed in two years for students attending full-time. 

Graduate Assistantships

A limited number of teaching and research assistantship are available to qualified full-time students in both the MBA for professionals and the MBA day programs. The primary purpose of these awards is to provide promising students with financial assistance to offset the costs of full-time graduate study. They also benefit students by providing opportunities to build knowledge and skill by working closely with the faculty members. Assistantships are awarded competitively based on the student's academic record and prior work experience. As part of the assessment, consideration will be given to the potential contribution an assistant can make to the program and college in the areas of instructional assistance and research.

MBA (Day)

Students are generally admitted on a full time basis. Courses meet in the late afternoons. Full-time students are expected to graduate within two years.

Computer Facilities

Full-time and part-time MBA students have access to extensive computer facilities both inside and outside of the College of Management (COM). All meeting areas in COM have wireless capabilities. In addition, within the college, students may use the COM computer laboratory. Use of this equipment, as part of course work or in conducting research, familiarizes students with computer technology in general, and provides them with specific computer skills that are vital for success in today's business world.
