UMass Lowell Commonwealth Honors Minimum Course Requirements

For students entering Fall 2013 or later*
    1. HON 110 FYSH
    2. Honors College Writing II 
    3. Honors Gen. Ed. or 200‐level or above Dedicated Honors Course
    4. HON 220 Difference Makers*
    5. Either:
        a. 300/400 level dedicated honors course
        b. 300/400 level Honors by Contract
        c. 500‐level graduate course
    6. Honors Seminar (HON 310, HON 320, or approved 300 level dept. numbered course)
    7. Thesis/Project or 300/400 level dedicated honors course
    8. Thesis/Project

For students entering Fall 2012 or later

    1. HON 110 FYSH
    2. Honors College Writing II  
    3. Any dedicated Honors Course, preferably an Honors Gen. Ed.
    4. Any dedicated Honors Course, preferably HON Difference Makers
    5. Either:
        a. 300/400 level dedicated honors course
        b. 300/400 level Honors by Contract
        c. 500‐level graduate course
    6. Honors Seminar (HON 310, HON 320, or approved 300 level dept. numbered course)

For students entering Spring 2012 or earlier**

**At most two course requirements can be fulfilled by an honors by contract.

 Note 1: Any deviation from these requirements must be approved by the Honors Director.
Note 2: Students can and are encouraged to earn additional honors credits whenever possible. 

Commonwealth Honors Lounge

Extended Access Policy: 

During the following hours all members of the UMass Lowell Commonwealth Honors programs will have access to the Honors Lounge in the basement of Eames Hall: 


Sunday: Noon to 11:00 p.m.
Monday - Thursday: 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday: No Access.

  • Any student who is not a resident of Eames must be a guest of a resident of Eames to be on the residential floors (including the first floor).
  • Non-residents of Eames in the building prior to 7:00 p.m. who wish to be on a residential floor must sign in at the security desk at 7:00 p.m.
  • Non-residents of Eames who wish to remain in the building after hours must be signed into the building by a resident.
  • Hosts of guests and guests must adhere to the Residence Hall Guest policy as stated in the Resident Student Handbook.

Students found abusing these privileges will have their access revoked for up to one semester for the first violation and permanently if successive violations occur.

The Office of Residence Life and the Commonwealth Honors program reserve the right to suspend non-Eames resident access at anytime.
