Research Interest

Patterning of conducting polymers, assembly of polymer blends by chemically functionalized template, polymer/nanotube and elastomer/clay nanocomposites, functional electrospun nanofibers, metamaterials, organic solar cell, biosensors, surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)

Leading and managing projects including: 
  • Fabrication of large scale nano-patterned conducting polymers on flexible polyurethane substrate with applications in the field of biosensor, all plastic circuits, paper-like displays and organic solar cell 
  • Nanopatterned polyacrylic acid/polystyrene films by direct assembly using chemical surfaces with applications in the field of controlled biosensors for diagnostic elements 
  • Alignment of carbon nanotubes and polyurethane/nanotubes nanocomposites with improved mechanical properties 
  • Effect of compatibilization on the properties of ultrafine scrap tire rubber and polypropylene blends 
  • EVA/clay, SBR/clay and EPDM/clay nanocomposites with improved mechanical and barrier properties for packaging and automobile applications 
  • Organic photovoltaics from nano-patterned fullerenes and semi-conducting polymers 
  • Metamaterials by electroplating growth and transfer of nanopatterned metal wires on polyurethane substrate 
  • Enhanced protein binding on femtosecond laser ablated PMMA surfaces 
Roll-to-roll assembly and transfer of carbon nanotubes to flexible polymeric materials 
  • Working with interdisciplinary (chemistry, biomedical, mechanical and electrical) and multisite team (University of Massachusetts Lowell, Northeastern University, University of New Hampshire and industry) on test beds for biosensor, strain sensor, organic photovoltaics, metamaterials and memory devices 
  • Writing proposals and “white papers” for the funding application from government and industry 
  • Technical consulting for plastics industrial partners 
  • Teaching class of Mechanical Properties of Polymers (graduate student on line class)
