Research at UMass Lowell

NASA has awarded a team of researchers led by physics Prof. Supriya Chakrabarti a grant worth nearly $5.6 million over five years to develop and test an instrument system that could potentially detect young, Jupiter-size planets orbiting other stars in the Milky Way.
A team of electrical engineering and computer science students led by sophomore Alexander Gribov has designed, built and tested a prototype solar/electric-powered quadricycle, or taxi, that could ferry up to four passengers at speeds reaching 25 miles per hour without consuming a single drop of gas.
Prof. Margaret Quinn of the Department of Work Environment has been awarded a $2.4 million four-year grant by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to find the right balance between fighting infections and using safer cleaning and disinfection methods and products.
