Biosketch

Edward Chiu serves as vice chancellor for Advancement at UMass Lowell.  He possesses over 18 years of experience in higher education leadership positions with a demonstrated track record as a successful fundraiser and program builder. At UMass Lowell, he serves as chief advancement officer overseeing a staff of 42 in the offices of development, alumni relations and advancement services. He also serves on the Chancellor’s Executive Cabinet.

Since his arrival in 2010, UMass Lowell has seen record growth in revenue having secured over $72.6 million in commitments.  Under his leadership, the University has posted four consecutive record-breaking fundraising years, having more than doubled annual commitments in that time period.  Chiu has also led efforts to plan and execute Our Legacy, Our Place, the first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign in the University’s history.  
 
Previously, Chiu served as associate vice president for institutional advancement at Providence College. In that capacity, he was responsible for the management of the alumni relations, development and advancement services programs overseeing a staff of 48. During his tenure, Chiu helped build a strong team that achieved record fundraising results and set forth the planning for a comprehensive campaign.

Chiu also served eight years at St. John’s University, as associate director and then as director of alumni relations before being promoted to director of operations for institutional advancement.  He guided all advancement functions for a staff of 80 employees and assisted in the successful planning and execution of a $250 million capital campaign.  Prior to St. John’s, Chiu worked for the University of Connecticut Alumni Association and Division of Athletics.
 
He received both his B.S. in Business and M.A. in Education from the University of Connecticut.  Chiu is also active in CASE, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, having served on the District I board.
