UMass Lowell is a nationally ranked research university with more than $65 million in funded research being conducted each year. Research happens on many levels of the campus—in all academic departments, through 14 research and engagement centers and institutes, scores of laboratories, by graduate and undergraduate students and with corporate sponsorship.
Researchers have projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute on Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH), Department of Defense, Department of Education, and many other federal and state granting agencies.
