Undergraduate Program
Approximately 40-50 students graduate each year with undergraduate accounting degrees from UMass Lowell. While some of our graduates pursue careers outside the New England area, the majority choose to live and work in the Boston area. One notable feature of Lowell’s vibrant business community is the diversity of local employment options. Without leaving the region, our graduates can find career opportunities with large national, regional, or local public accounting firms; corporations and businesses of varying size; and governmental entities, among others.

Boston’s thriving business community also offers a significant number of internships. The same companies that hire our graduates readily provide our current students with paid positions in which they gain valuable practical experience while they are still in school. Many of our students take advantage of these opportunities to put their classroom learning to work before completing their degrees.

Accounting Society
The Accounting Department is home to the Accounting Society. Student members of this organization identify numerous outlets for personal development and public service. In addition, the Accounting Society’s programs provide our students with many occasions to learn more about alternative careers and to network with accounting professionals.

The primary focus of our faculty is delivering first-class instruction to our students. Supporting activities include research and scholarly activity as well as university and community service. All of our accounting faculty hold graduate degrees from well-known institutions, and most of them are also CPAs and/or have extensive accounting experience.

The accounting program at UMass Lowell provides a strong foundation, whether the individual plans to pursue a career in public accounting, corporate accounting or graduate studies. The department offers accounting concentrations in both the undergraduate and graduate programs of the The Robert J. Manning School of Business.

If you are interested in a business career that will put you in a position of responsibility and leadership - in either a public accounting firm, corporation or non-profit organization--a management degree with a concentration in accounting is ideal.

This concentration provides:

  • basic math, analytic and communication skills
  • experience with the latest technology
  • a solid background in accounting
  • the opportunity to gain real experience in research, internships, and outreach projects conducted with employers across the region

Accounting graduates can choose from a variety of career opportunities, including chief financial officer, treasurer, controller and entrepreneur.
